I have a norcold 1200LRIMSSD.

The thermal sensor r-010 is blinking. I automatically assumed temperature trip. I've let the external components cool and have atempted resetting it several times. The magnet is not working.

I have unplugged the primary wires then reconnected them. I can feel the switch reset. I'll have power to the fridge for about 10 seconds hear a click in the refer and then the sensor starts blinking again. Once the sensor is activated. I lose all 12v power to the refer control board.

Just a side note. The refer was running and cooling prior to having troubles. Infact, i diddnt have any trouble till about an hour after I plugged into shore power. Was running on gen set with no troubles. (Just before dark. Isn't that always the time things decide to go on the fritz?)

I assume 《------, and u know what that means, it's a faulty thermal sensor. I've bypassed it and the refer is working.

I've let it sit over night. No power to the refer. System was cool this morning. So, theoretically, the thermo sensor should not interfere with the power to the refer.

It's been running for about 3 hrs and I see no visible troubles. What's concerning me is the fact that the safety switch is no longer in the loop.

I guess having the local FD # on speed dial is a good thing.

I'll be sure to post pictures after the fire

If you are referring to the black thing that clips on in the back of the refrigerator, it was installed as part of a recall, its sole job in life was to cut off the 12V during a potential overheat situation. They have been known to do that for overheat situations but also for no obvious reason which may include its own failure.

My understanding is that they do NOT reset themselves despite you hearing a click, the relay is magnetically latched inside the unit and you need a stronger magnet to reset it properly by stroking the magnet over the top and observing the light extinguish. The fridge will then power up.

If all else fails you may need a new unit, but I understand that Norcold may not want to send you one and you may have to go through a recognized repair person or dealer, should still be free though!! There are better solutions such as an ARP unit, see the sponsors ad above.

The difficulty in this situation is determining whether the little black "recall box" tripped while doing its job (it found a very high boiler temp) or whether it is faulty. Even if it is overheating, the fridge will still work, at least for awhile, but the risk of a fire is too scary. The Norcold sensor doesn't trip until a really extreme temperature is reached (around 800 F.), so a trip other than a sensor failure is much serious.

My best advice is to install an ARP device, which is a much more reliable, as well as smarter, boiler temperature monitor. It will shut off before the Norcold recall sensor, and will automatically restart when it cools down. It will also monitor for repeated shutdowns. a sure sign of a serious problem. I would recommend an ARP to anyone as a "good thing to have", but in your case it is darn near mandated unless you enjoy gambling with your personal safety. Speed dial won't help - the fire dept can't get there soon enough to save the coach. Or you, unless you happen to be watching when it happens.

Many of us here have installed one. Learn more about ARP here:

Thank you guys for the responses.

Alfa. That is the box I am referring to. The magnet is not working on the switch. I think it's a faulty switch. I let the reefer cool over night just to be sure that temp was not the issue.

Thank you Gary. I will look into getting one of those controllers.

Just an update.

I've been monitoring this really close. Being that it is a recall issue signifies to me that it's not an "if" it is a "when" something happens. Asside from the boiler, I have been able to touch and hold my hands on all of the components at the rear of the refer.

That certainly sounds like a bad recall box, and there have been more than a few of those. Still, look into the APR and let it take a lot of worry out of fridge usage. It complements the Norcold box, so no concerns about that once you get it replaced.
